Hey girls,
I have uploaded (i think) both of the sheets we need to use. I tried to start them, let me know if you cannot view them or if I did anything wrong, I am not very good with this tech stuff. haha
Janine
One more thing, let me know if I am not doing the assignment correctly, I am a little confused but i tried to start it any way.
Janine
Thanks Janine! Here are my thoughts so far to enter into the NARA Photo Analysis document and the KWL chart. If you have any trouble getting them in let me know and I will start a new one for us and make sure all the data is entered. - Tina NARA
People- Women and children
Objects- Machinery: Crane
Activities- Trying to clean up accident
Inference- The people are passengers and they are waiting for another mode of transportation to come and pick them up.
Questions- Were these trains only carrying passengers or did they have other cargo?
KWL
K
Majority of people that died from train related incidents were not in major train wrecks.
The most common reason for train-related deaths was little mistakes that caused just one or two to pass away.
W
Did these wrecks happen at night or during the day?
Was weather a factor?
Hi ladies - here are some thoughts I had after looking at the photos - Gloria Photo Analysis Worksheet 1A. Study the photograph for 2 minutes. Form an overall impression of the photograph and then examine individual items. Next, divide the photo into quadrants and study each section to see what new details become visible. People appear to be posing for a photograph at the scene of a horrible train wreck. Others, while posing, also appear to be very curious about the wreckage. B. Use the chart below to list people, objects, and activities in the photograph.
People - mostly men with hats, a few women and children Objects - mangled debris, cranes, locomotive, telegraph or phone poles Activities - posing, standing, observing, sitting/kneeling
2. Based on what you have observed above, list three things you might infer from this photograph.
People may have died during the train wreck.
The area where the wreck happens appears to be rural.
It must have been very expensive to clean up the site of the accident.
3A. What questions does this photograph raise in your mind? How many people died in the accident?
How did the accident happen?
Who was at fault for the accident?
What was the train carrying?
3B. Where could you find answers to them? Local library with archives of local newspapers
Local Historical Society
Internet
Accounts from the townspeople of that time
The railroad company
KWL CHART What I know: A train wreck happened
People came to the scene
Wreck happened in a rural area
Lots of mangled debris at the scene
What I want to know: Death toll
Financial loss
Clean up time
Events leading up to the wreck
What I’ve Learned: In order to get their picture taken, people would often show up at the scene of a disaster in earlier time periods
Photographic images were often used for postcards
Let me know what else I can add and thanks for starting the project again - Gloria
Hi Ladies! I added all of your thoughts. Look them over and let me know what you think. And I will add anything else you want.
Janine
Janine- I think everything looks great. Thank you for putting the data in. - Tina
I think the only thing we have to do is post it labeled as our final document. Tina
